We're busy finalizing preparations for ARRM's Day at the Capitol next Tuesday, March 10th. This annual event brings 1,000 advocates together to ask legislators to invest in services for people with disabilities and the caregivers who support them.
Due to construction at the Capitol this year, the day will look a little different but will still carry a powerful message: “Prioritize person with disabilities in 2015 and pass a 5% rate increase for home and community based services!” Learn more about The 5% Campaign.
We invite you to join us and spread the word!
Details of the event are as follows:
- Rally: 10:00-11:00 am at the St. Paul Armory. Wear blue, bring signs and cheer loudly! The Joyful Noise Lifeworks Choir will perform and confirmed speakers include Parent Pam Gonella and her daughter Sarah, Sen. Brown, Rep. Dean, Sen. Eken, Rep. Halverson, Rep Hamilton, Sen. Hoffman, Sen. Lourey, Rep. Newton, and Sen. Rosen.
- Transportation: Chartered buses will be available to help attendees travel from the State Office Building to the Armory from 9:00-10:00 am, then back to the State Office Building from 11:00-noon.
- ARRM/MOHR Legislator Meetings: Group appointments are scheduled for ARRM and MOHR members wishing to meet with their legislators. You can find a complete schedule of appointment times on our Day at the Capitol webpage.
- ARRM State Office Room: ARRM will have room 500N of the State Office Building reserved for the day beginning at 8:00 am. Stop by to pick up information, a 2015 Day at the Capitol button, and confirm your legislator meeting times.
The Minnesota Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities will be displaying their '2015 Faces of Disability' exhibit throughout the Capitol Complex next week. This year the exhibit will feature 50 posters hosted in various legislative offices and help share the stories of people affected by the Medical Assistance "spend-down". Look for these posters as you visit your legislators March 10th. Learn more about the Medical Assistance Reform Campaign on MN-CCD's website.
We are excited to see you at the Capitol next week! Please contact Sara Grafstrom at [email protected] with questions about either of these events.
